Bare shelves at Roma's Woolworths spark customer complaints

IT was Tuesday night at Roma's Woolworths and Janne Larsen was trying to shop- but everywhere she turned the shelves were missing stock.

Ms Larsen said it's not the first time she has been faced with Woolworths stock shortages and the problem was particularly bad on Saturday afternoons.

"You go to the deli (on Saturday) and it gets packed away hours before closing time," Ms Larsen said.

"When querying the staff they say they've been told to pack it away early but if there is a particular item I'd like they can get it for me."

Ms Larsen said she often has trouble buying basic items such as vegetables, lettuce and bread at the store.

It's a complaint that has been echoed by others.

Shopper Deborah Jenkins said she was always particularly disappointed with the store's bakery section.

"Also they can never get anything in for you, a couple of times I've tried to order in organic stuff and they have not been able to get it in," Ms Jenkins said.

But local opinions were mixed, and other shoppers said they had never had a problem with Woolworths.

Andrew Macdivitt said he'd always been able to get what he wanted in store and Michael Malley agreed he'd never had a bad shopping experience there.

"Everyone's pretty nice and the service seems good," Mr Malley said.

The Western Star contacted Woolworths head office and asked about the stock shortages, but they did not respond to our query in time for deadline.
