NANANGO landfill workers doubled as firefighters this morning containing a blaze.

About 6.30am the landfill's green waste ignited due to the hot weather.

South Burnett Waste Facility Nanango manager Glen Bailey said he and his staff brought the fire under control with their onsite water tanker.

He said a fire did not break out often.

"This is the first time this has happened in the three years I've been here," Mr Bailey said.

"We have a water truck on hand just in case of fires."

The situation will monitored across the weekend.

Firefighters are facing an extreme fire danger in the next couple of days.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service's Mark Long asked people to vigilant and report fires by calling 000.

He said no fire permits were being issued at this time.
