BLUE-GREEN algae in Gordonbrook Dam might be a thing of the past.

South Burnett Regional Council has received $680,000 from the State Government to install a dissolved air floatation device at the dam.

It is hoped the upgrade will improve water quality for Kingaroy and surrounding areas.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the area's water quality had been an ongoing issue.

"Kingaroy's town water supply is often undrinkable and these funds will deliver much needed infrastructure upgrades for the people of Nanango," she said.

"(The upgrade will) improve the reliability of the plant."
