A MYSTERY woman started shaking and crying when she realised she won $100, 000 on a $5 crossword scratch-it in Murgon.

Murgon Newsagency shop assistant Candice Sippel said the woman almost fell over when she heard the good news.

"When I looked at it and we counted the words together, I said 'I think you've won a hundred grand'," Mrs Sippel said.

"She was just shaking and I reckon she hugged me about three times."

Mrs Sippel said she was just as thrown as the woman who won.

"She was gob-smacked, but I was just as gob-smacked," she said.

"I looked at it and thought 'no it can't be'.

"I didn't even know what to say."

Mrs Sippel said she pushed the scratch-it number through and the woman "just started crying".

"It went to someone deserving and she's a local too which makes it even better," she said.

Murgon Newsagency owner John Robinson agreed it went to a deserving person.

"They've lived here for some time," he said.

"It's someone a lot of people will know."

Mr Robinson said he knew it would make a big difference to the woman's life.

"Particularly in these times, a win like that can make all the difference," he said.

"They'll put it to good use. But I'd say they're going to keep it quiet."
