THE year started with a bang for the Kingaroy Clay Target Club, with the club's first competition for 2013 on Sunday.

The first event of the year attracted 37 competitors, with shooters from the South Burnett as well as visiting sharp-shooters from across south-east Queensland including Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Gympie, Toogoolawah and the Central Burnett.

Sunday's competition featured five events, including double barrel, points, continental, handicap and double rise. Kingaroy Clay Target Club president Gary Brown said Sunday's meet was a good way to start the year, despite the overcast conditions.

"It was a bit cloudy and a bit windy, but conditions were still suitable," he said. The club was looking forward to hosting its biggest event of the year early next month, he said.

"Our annual two-day shoot will be held in early February, and we're expecting over 100 shooters from throughout Queensland to attend our biggest competition of the year."

The Kingaroy Clay Target Club's annual two-day shoot will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 2-3.
