10 South Burnett events to get you in the Christmas spirit
THE South Burnett community knows how to celebrate the festive season.
This year will be no different with a variety of events happening for all ages throughout the season.
From Christmas carnivals to carols, a rodeo and speedway there is something in the region for everyone this festive season.
1 Christmas Carols
There's nothing like a rendition of jingle bells to get you in the Christmas spirit.
The Kingaroy community will get in a festive mood at the annual Christmas carols on Sunday, December 2.
2 Final Nanango markets for the year
Find the perfect local gift for your loved ones at the final Nanango markets of the year on Saturday, December 1.
A wide range of craft, gardening and local goods will be on offer at the markets from 6am to noon at the Nanango show grounds.
3 Nanango races Christmas meeting
Pull on your Christmas best and head to the Nanango Races on Sunday, December 2.
The fashions on the field theme for the day is green and red with a touch of silver and gold.
It will be a day for the whole family to enjoy as the club's final meeting of the year.
4. Mayor's Christmas lunch
The community will be coming together to spread the Christmas cheer at the Mayor's Annual Community Luncheon on Friday December 7 from noon.
Celebrity chef Matt Golinski will be the guest speaker at the Kingaroy Town Hall event, aiming to raise money by way of food vouchers for South Burnett families in need.
Tickets can be purchased from the South Burnett Regional Council service desks.
5. Christmas Disco
Music, Santa, face painting and games. What more could a kid ask for?
The youth of Nanango will be celebrating Christmas in style at the Nanango Bluelight Christmas disco.
The disco, sponsored by Nanango Lions Club, will be on Friday, December 7 from 6pm-8pm at Nanango's blue light hall.
6. Christmas toy run
The roar of motorbikes will be music to kids' ears on Saturday, December 8 with the running of the annual Christmas toy run.
People will have the opportunity to take toys to the collection point at the Kingaroy Showgrounds at noon on the day before the riders parade around town and the toys are handed to the Salvation Army.
7. Kingaroy speedway Christmas shoot-out
The Kingaroy speedway community will be getting in the festive spirit at speedway's final meeting of the year on Saturday, December 8 from 4pm.
A Queensland title will be on the line in the lightning sprints, V8 super sedans will be racing as part of the Brims Concrete state series and wingless sprints will be competing in the IBRP super series.
Strong fields are expected as it is the last opportunity for modified sedans to race on the track ahead of the annual kings royal race in January.
8. Community Christmas carnivals
Towns in the region will come to life with their respective annual Christmas carnivals.
Blackbutt will kick off the carnival season on Sunday, December 2 with the lions Christmas carnival from 4pm-7pm.
The community of Goomeri will host their carnival on Friday, December 8 from 4pm at the sports ground.
Kumbia's carnival will be on Sunday, December 9.
The people of Kingaroy will celebrate the season on Friday, December 13 from 5pm to 9pm.
The Nanango community will come together for the town's Christmas carnival on Thursday, December 20.
With the return of the carnival, at Pioneer Park from 4.30pm-9pm, the town will not have their annual New Year's Eve mardi gras this year.
Lamb St will be home to Murgon's carnival on Friday, December 14.
The people of Proston will come together at the town's celebration on Saturday, December 15 from 3pm-9pm.
Wondai will bring in Christmas Eve with their annual carnival.
9. Christmas lights competition
The streets of the South Burnett come to life during December with residents vying for top prize in the annual Christmas lights competition.
Judging will take place from December 3-10 and the lights will continue to shine through the month of December.
10. Cherbourg community rodeo
Christmas is a time for the community to come together and celebrate.
That is what the Cherbourg community rodeo is all about.
It will be an event for all levels of riders from poddy rides through to the open bull ride at the rodeo on Thursday, December 13 from 3.30pm.
Away from the ring there will be a jumping castle, music and mechanical bull.
