11 people hospitalised, 1 dead after stabbing attack in Ohio

A MAN has allegedly driven his car into a group of pedestrians at Ohio State University before stabbing people with a butcher's knife.

He was then shot and killed by a police officer, reports NBC4i

11 people were injured in the attack, one critically, with all being taken to hospital.

The attacker has been identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a Somali-born legal permanent resident of the US by an official who would only comment on the case so long as they remained anonymous.

The FBI and other US agencies have also joined the investigation.

The officer identified as the one who shot and killed the assailant, Alan Horujko, was nearby because of a gas leak and arrived within a minute of the attack beginning.

"A police officer was on the scene within a minute and killed the assailant,"  Ohio State Police Chief Craig Stone said.

"He engaged the suspect and eliminated the threat.

Officials believe the attack may have been premeditated and was deliberate.

"This was done on purpose," Stone said.
