55yo 'tries to run over dogs twice' in car: Police

A MAN allegedly hit one dog and missed another in a car at South Mackay on Sunday before turning around to try and hit the pair again.

Police will allege the 55-year-old South Mackay man was driving along Boddington St at 5.30pm where he intentionally accelerated towards a large white dog and brown Rhodesian Ridgeback on the road.

The man is alleged to have hit one of the dogs with his car.

Police will further allege he then turned around and went back at the dogs but didn't hit them.

Police were able to find the Rhodesian Ridgeback in a nearby home but were unable to find the large white dog and are unsure of the injuries the dog has.

The 55-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty and will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on September 12.
