Palaszczuk downplays poll popularity

ANNASTACIA Palaszczuk's government may have lost the polling lead for the first time since she was elected Premier but she is not showing any signs of worry.

A Galaxy poll released on Monday revealed the LNP has taken an election winning lead for the first time since the Labor Party defeated the Campbell Newman government.

According to the poll, the two major parties remain neck and neck on two party preferred with the LNP ahead 51% to Labor's 49%.

But the poll showed Ms Palaszczuk has increased her lead over Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg as the preferred premier.

Despite this Ms Palaszczuk on Monday talked down the poll.

"The polls are very close, there's always going to be ups and downs," she said.

"I'm very optimistic, I'm out there speaking with Queenslanders right across Queensland every day and they give me heart.

"We're just getting on and delivering for Queenslanders, as I said. It is a complete contrast the way my government acts compared to the turbulent three years under the LNP."

Mr Springborg did not comment on the poll on Monday. - APN NEWSDESK
