Victoria hit by destructive series of bushfires

AN EMERGENCY warning was issued in Victoria while firefighters tried to control a series of blazes across the state.

Residents in the Barnawartha, Indigo Upper and Indigo regions, close to the NSW border, were told about lunch time Sunday that it was too late to leave and to stay indoors as an out-of-control grassfire spread.

Victorian fire authorities also monitored other bushfires including one at Scotsburn, south of Ballarat, which destroyed eight buildings including houses and sheds.

On Sunday afternoon this fire was burning within containment lines.
