A GROSSLY intoxicated woman caught driving on a residential street in Kingaroy was more than five times over the legal alcohol limit.
The 41-year-old woman was stopped on William St about 11pm on Friday night for a random breath test, where she returned a positive reading.
She was taken to the police station for a second test, which showed she had a breath alcohol concentration of 0.263%.
Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said it was fortunate patrolling officers found her before she could continue her journey, risking her own life and the lives of others.
"It has been a long time in Kingaroy since police have detected a female driver with such a high reading," he said.
"Due to extreme intoxication she was held in the Kingaroy Police Station for her own safety and to sober up."
After the woman had spent several hours in custody, officers tried to take her to a safe place and hand her into the care of other responsible adults but she would not go willingly.
"The female objected, was aggressive, aggravated and refused to comply with any support or other assistance from police or other people," Snr Sgt Frank said.
"She was returned to the watch house still affected by alcohol."
The woman was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and will face court next month.
