Adopt a pet for $29 this weekend

SOUTH Burnett families can pick up a new family member for $29 this weekend at RSPCA's Clear the Shelter sale.

"It is a chance for cats and dogs that people wouldn't normally fight over or rush in for,” Bonny Hiet from Kingaroy RSPCA said.

"There is no reason they wouldn't be an important addition to a family.”

Among the 32 pets available for adoption in Kingaroy across Friday, Saturday and Sunday is Palousse, a 15-year-old snowshoe cat and Ms Heit is hoping reducing her adoption price by $71 will mean the cat will find a home.

"She is an elderly lady and would need to go to a home that would be prepared to pay for her ongoing dental work, which is why she would get overlooked, but she doesn't have too many issues and is a beautiful cat,” Ms Heit said.

"It is good to remind people that we do have animals that need homes and theirs might be ideal.”

Last year, a record 2792 animals were re-homed across the country during the Clear the Shelters promotion.

Though adoption fees will be drastically reduced, normal adoption procedures will apply to ensure each animal is matched with the right family.

Included in the adoption price is the pet's desexing, microchipping, vaccinations, veterinary checks and behavioural assessments as well as ongoing support from the RSPCA.

While a number of animals will leave Kingaroy RSPCA this weekend, Ms Heit said it was important to remember the adoption pens will fill up quickly and there are always pets available, especially cats.

Those interested in visiting Kingaroy RSPCA this weekend are encouraged to register here.
