All in a day’s play: Clever mums make money from home

HOME work for mums is no longer a domestic burden with mums on the Fraser Coast now cashing in from home.

Self-employed and sole business operator Eliza Carige began her online retail business Healthy Active Mums two months ago after she decided a bit of extra money was needed to help around the household- no easy task with an energetic 18-month-year-old son to care for and a new baby on the way.

But while she thinks her business has a viable future, making a few dollars here and there wasn't the main motivator for her.

"It all started because I was lost with my (pregnancy) journey and I didn't want others to feel alone," she said.

Her business, in which she sells exercise clothing and provides free-of-charge lifestyle advice to both expectant mums and those with kids, is a venture she is glad she began.

"I would recommend it as it gives you independence, you can help provide for your family and you can spend time at home with your child/ren," she said.

Now Eliza wants other mums and women to join in.

An afternoon tea will be held next month at Arkarra Tea Gardens for those interested to know more about self-employment.

Eliza said a variety of business operators had been sought from the Fraser Coast, including those with ventures in selling home wares, cleaning products and active wear, plus more.

"There will be about 18 women there to talk to who already run a business from home," she said.

"The afternoon tea will be an opportunity for those who attend to network and to become inspired as to what they can do."

Tickets will be on sale by Wednesday, priced at about $35 each.

The afternoon tea is on January 30 between 2pm and 5 pm.
