Alleged bike gang members denied bail by Mackay court

A GROUP of Sydney men charged under Queensland's anti-bikie laws have been denied bail in Mackay Magistrates Court and will remain in custody.

The four men - Tevita Vakeifanga Fangaloka, 33, Fatongia Alepini Hanisi, 40, Viliami Hafoka Iongi, 37, and Medhat Mankaryous, 34 - appeared at a bail hearing in Mackay Magistrates Court today, charged under the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment Act introduced in 2013.

It followed their arrest at an Ooralea address on August 13. They were subsequently charged with robbery under the VLAD laws.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer adjourned until November 9 for a committal mention to determine if there is enough evidence to send the men to trial.

Sydney woman Veronica Lisa Harte, 34, who is not accused of being a gang member, was also arrested with the men at Ooralea.

Mr Dwyer granted her bail in court today and adjourned until November 9 for a committal mention.
