Alleged shooter returns to coast
A VICTORIAN man charged in relation to a shooting at Robina on Saturday is heading back to Queensland under a police escort.
The man, believed to be a member of an outlaw motorcycle club, will arrive today on a Queensland Police aircraft.
Police said in a statement that the 26-year-old man was considered a high-risk prisoner and, in line with national air safety protocols, he would be transported on a Queensland Police plane.
"While from time-to-time prisoners are transported on commercial flights, a risk assessment is always conducted with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of the travelling public at airports and in flight, as well as officer safety," the statement said.
"The risks to the public associated in transporting prisoners of this nature were highlighted in recent years when an OMCG (outlaw motorcycle gang) member was killed in the arrivals hall at Sydney airport."
The man was to arrive back in Queensland late this afternoon and would face court at Southport tomorrow.
