Anh Do in Iceland - we've been waiting for this

IT'S been a while since we've had a loveable comedian present a documentary about an unusual overseas country.

Sure, Hamish & Andy bring their schoolboy humour to all manner of Gap Year locations, An Idiot Abroad has its own cult following and Billy Connolly's specials are up there with the best.

But now we have Anh Do showing us around Iceland (Seven, tonight, 7.30pm).

This is actually part two of a series, following the last one on Scandinavia that aired back in February. Spooked by low ratings at the time, Seven suspended the show but has  now switched it from Thursday night to Sunday. A good move: families and oldies will be watching.

This is tabloid, innocuous viewing. If you're looking for a serious insight into this nation's culture, environment and history, go Googling or hook up to the National Geographic Channel. It capitalises on quirks and plays for laughs.

Just as we cringe when Modern Family does their best "Gedday mayte", shrimp-on-the-barbie attempt to grasp our culture, so too must native Icelanders bristle at the portrayal of their country.

And watch it, you do not want to get Bjork off side.

Tonight, Anh takes part in a naked sauna before jumping into a freezing ocean, "meets the wackiest mayor on earth" and eats local delicacies in the form of sheep head and rotting shark.

He also tests out an app designed to prevent incest, as there are only 320,000 people in the country. Riiight.

I find Anh impossible to dislike. His deer-in-the-headlights simpleton act is absolutely charming, so this should be a nice bit of cruisy viewing.

If anything, it will serve to remind us that our winters will never be as cold as this truly icy place.
