Apps to help women in danger of violence

TECHNOLOGY is helping women of all ages to make decisions about relationships, whether it's how to get help or to assess whether a relationship is healthy in the first place.

For women suffering violence or various forms of abuse, often one of the biggest difficulties is knowing who they can talk to, where they can go - and how they can investigate their options without being discovered by their partners.

Daisy is a new app developed by national domestic violence and sexual assault hotline 1800 RESPECT, in consultation and with state and territory authorities.

The app is designed to connect women around Australia to help, such as providing service phone numbers, searching the internet for more information and letting women know what to expect when contacting a service.

Family members and friends can also use Daisy to gather information and support a loved one's decision making.

Another app that was recently made available is iMatter, which is targeted principally at young women.

The app includes quizzes and questions that help young women identify warning signs in relationships and how to get help.

It will also have information that changes and updates regularly.

Both apps are free and available for both iPhone and Android devices.
