Aus team snatches gold from GB at World Track Champs
THE Australian men's team pursuit team has prevented Great Britain from pedalling to a hat-trick of gold medal victories against it.
Aussies Glenn O'Shea, Alexander Edmondson, Michael Hepburn and Alexander Morgan got the better of their old rivals on day one of the World Track Championships in Russia to win in a time of 3min 56.751secs over the four km circuit.
Team GB beat the Aussies both last year's world championships in Melbourne and then at the London Olympics.
Denmark beat Spain for the bronze medal.
Two other Aussies, Amy Cure and Annette Edmondson, also finished the day with medals after finishing behind American track star Sarah Hammer in the women's pursuit.
The 29-year-old won her fifth world to move to just one title away from the world record of six held by her compatriot Rebecca Twigg and Russian Tamara Garkuchina.
Hammer was joined on the podium by Cure (silver) and bronze medallist Edmondson, the sister of men's team pursuit winner Alexander.
