ARE you noticing more Ferraris on our roads? More Lamborghinis? Porsches?  

Sorry to all you Kia Picanto and Suzuki Celerio drivers out there, but Australians have an insatiable and ever-increasing desire for premium and performance offerings according to 2016's new car sales data.  

Thought you were exclusive buying a Mercedes-Benz? Not any more. A mighty 41,226 new Mercs flew out of its glitzy showrooms last year - the German marque selling more cars in Australia than Honda managed.  

While Benz's sales figures were up 13% from 2016, BMW can also manage a Germanic grin with sales up 12%, although the Bavarians will be a tad grumpy Mercedes shifted over 13,000 more units than them last year. Audi meanwhile saw sales up 5%, Lexus climbed by 4%, Land Rover 14% and Volvo up by 19%.  

Mighty gains were seen by Infiniti (up 41%) and Jaguar (up 133%), these lower volume sellers bolstered by an ever-expanding product line-up - Jaguar's F-Pace SUV and baby XE sedan specifically.  

Always dreamed of owning a Porsche? Many Aussies managed it in 2016 with the brand selling 4434 examples - that's over 1000 more than Peugeot achieved. To rile Porsche purists, over 3500 of that number were made up of its SUVs, the Cayenne and Macan. And you thought Porsche was still a sports car manufacturer…

In 2016 Bentley sales were up 20% (190 sold) and Rolls-Royce up 23% (37 sold); upper large cars over $100k were up 13% (think BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S Class), and sports cars over $200k - where we'd all love to be shopping - had sales up 12%.   

Australians bought 188 Ferraris last year (up 13% from 2015's 167), 127 Lamborghinis (up 51% from 2015's 84) and 93 McLarens (up a mighty 158% from 2015's 36). Aston Martin and Maserati sales were down marginally, but expect that to change in 2017 as both brands bring fresh new product to our shores.  

It's not me buying all these luxury expensive delights, and I extend my sympathies if it's not you either.
