THANKS to the international dateline, Gympie's Sovereign Cinema will be among the first in the world to premiere the next Star Wars instalment, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Sovereign Cinema manager Sharon Crane said fans had approached her to put on a midnight screening of episode seven in the intergalactic saga.

The screening will start at 12.01am on Thursday, December 17 and fans wishing to see it will need to be at the cinema late on Wednesday night.

"People sometimes get confused when we say a midnight screening and come on the Thursday night instead," Ms Crane said.

The eagerly anticipated sequel has fans hopping at the chance to see what happens to Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.

Star Wars fans are also notorious for cosplay or dressing up in costume and Ms Crane is hoping fans will dress up for the event so she can award prizes for the most creative costumes.

But this isn't just limited to the midnight screening.

"I would welcome Star Wars personas appearing at any of the sessions," she said.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will screen five times a day for the first week and will run for at least a four-week season.

Ms Crane said locals had taken the opportunity to have five fundraisers screening the movie over the season.
