Bare-bummed backpacker caught on camera

STILL reeling from the Brisbane "poo jogger", Queensland has a new bare-bummed villain after a backpacker was caught using a Gold Coast resident's front lawn as a toilet.

Disgruntled Surfers Paradise resident, Michele Jones, caught a glimpse of the unethical act taking place outside her front door yesterday morning - so she decided to capture the shocking moment on camera and share it on social media for the world to see.

And, it's not the first time it's happened on Ms Jones' front lawn.

"Backpackers living on Gold Coast streets in vans and using our streets as toilets," she wrote alongside the images of the squatting holiday-maker.

"We don't allow our homeless to live in vans around our streets so why are backpackers allowed?"

Ms Jones goes on describe how the city's streets are "littered with remnants of makeshift bed frames" which, she claims, are built inside backpacker vans.

"Backpackers are buying cheap vans, 4wd, station wagons and turning them into accommodation on wheels to avoid paying the higher rates of accommodation throughout Australia," she later wrote in a blog post today.

"Most of these accommodations are on wheels do not have toilet facilities so as you can see by the pics … backpackers are using the streets to urinate.

"Maybe Gold Coast City Council needs to provide a dedicated parking area with toilet facilities for the accommodation on wheels and we can also provide vans for our homeless. Two problems, one stone."

A City of Gold Coast spokeswoman told news.com.au public urination and defecation is a police matter. However the council said it is cracking down on illegal camping.

"The City acts on complaints in these matters and has received three complaints since March this year," she said. "Investigations have not resulted in any breaches being observed.

"City officers patrolled the area as recently as last night and observed no illegal behaviour. Patrols will continue."

The embarrassing images were circulated just two weeks after Brisbane's notorious "poo jogger" was named and shamed.

Andrew Douglas Macintosh - a national quality manager for the retirement village property and investment group giant, Aveo - was charged with creating a public nuisance after neighbours banded together to catch the man they believed had fouled their property up to 30 times in a year.
