Banker bows out in credit

BUSINESS and community leaders from across south-east Queensland joined family and friends to celebrate Brian Carter's illustrious 37-year career with Heritage Bank on Friday.

Mr Carter presided over his final Heritage Bank board meeting on Thursday.

He has now stepped down as both chairman and as a director.

He held the position of chairman for 30 years.

Mr Carter said the successful name transition to Heritage Bank in December last year and the fact that he had reached the age of 70 both made this the appropriate time to stand aside and make way for a new era.

His 37-year career and many contributions to community service have been acknowledged with several awards.

Mr Carter was awarded the Centenary of Federation Medal for distinguished service to the community in 2001.

He was appointed a member in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2006 and was awarded an honorary doctorate of the University of Southern Queensland in 2007.

Deputy chairman Kerry Betros will take over the position of chairman at Heritage Bank.
