Barbeler's stock on the rise

Speedway: Nathan Barbeler produced the best night of racing in his short Street Stock career to claim the Central Queensland Street Stock Title at McCosker Rocky Speedway.

The 22 year-old Kingaroy driver was one of the form drivers heading into the event, and did his best work when it mattered most - in the Central Queensland feature race.

Barbeler, who qualified fourth heading into the feature race, was one of the front-runners throughout the 20-lap journey.

But it was his determination that saw him take over the lead in the closing stages, in a race that mixed clockwise and anti-clockwise racing.

Barbeler sat in third for the majority of the race, before taking control on lap 17 and keeping his cool to maintain the race lead to the fall of the chequered flag three laps later.

In a 10-year speedway career that began in Junior Sedans and followed by a stint in the Modified Sedans format, Barbeler has raced Street Stocks for the past three seasons and rates the Rockhampton win as a career highlight.

"I certainly had to work hard for the Central Queensland Title, but I kept my nerve and it saw me come away with the win," Barbeler said.

"Winning is always good for the confidence, and it being a blue-ribbon event makes it even more special."

With parents Michelle and David also competing on the Street Stock circuit, Barbeler stressed it was a combined effort that led to his maiden CQ title.

"I couldn't do this without Mum and Dad, this win is as much theirs as it is mine."

Barbeler is next in action in the Cannon Ball Run at Maryborough on April 21.
