Bettie Butcher is back: Empowering women through pin-up

THE second annual BaconFest brings another opportunity to hold the much-loved pin-up themed Miss BaconFest pageant.

Bettie Butcher, the host of last year's pageant will be returning to host this year's event and is excited to see how many strong and confident women get involved.

"I'm so excited to be coming back for BaconFest 2019. I had so much fun last year, and I already know this year will be even better,” she said.

Ms Butcher said the South Burnett region is close to her heart and she loves coming back to it, as her dad lives in the region.

"It's also great to see so many empowered women in regional Queensland competing,” she said.

Ms Butcher has been involved in the custom culture community for the last 10 years, since she followed the lead of local women dressing up for car shows.

"I used to go to a lot of shows with my dad, and my love for cars has always been there. Seeing so many women dressing up for these events, I was very inspired,” she said.

It wasn't until she had her photo taken at Brisbane's Grease Fest that she got the confidence she needed to give pin-up a real go.

"I admired the culture because it's very much the love and nostalgia of the by gone era... but it's vintage vibes not vintage values,” she said.

"Women love dressing up in these eras, but are all strong, independent women and very much embrace it into a modern pin-up.”

Ms Butcher said it's a very inclusive community that advocates for empowering women, helps connect communities and gives people the opportunity to dress up.

For this year's, Ms Butcher said the judges will have a keen eye for women who put in the effort to dress up, have a great amount of confidence and take on the meaty theme of BaconFest.
