'Monster' brown snake found hiding in garden shed

IT'S being called a monster.

A two metre - and angry - brown snake has been rounded up in a Toowoomba shed.

Snake catcher Ross McGibbon was called out to a job at Blue Mountain Heights.

The large and venomous snake was camping out in a garden shed and was discovered by the home-owner during a weekend clean out.

Mr McGibbon said the snake took shelter in an old set of draws after being disturbed.

"The owner did rather well to keep calm and shut the door behind him before calling a snake catcher.

"It's so good to see snakes making it to this size and in such good condition.

"Wow, what an impressive animal,.

"I had a grin on my face all day after that catch."

Mr McGibbon said brown snakes reacted in three ways when confronted by people; fight, flight or going into crypsis (playing dead).

"In an enclosed area they often use defensive behaviour because they can't get away."

He said snakes grew to a large size in Toowoomba because of the high number of rats and mice.
