Bowlers return the carnival favour for Nanango club
LAWN BOWLS: Travelling to bowls carnivals across the state has paid off for Nanango members, with the club attracting 28 teams to their annual Men's Rose Bowl Carnival in return.
The club's greens were awash with colour at the weekend, with teams from Quilpie, Cunnamulla, Taroom and Kallangur making the trip, as well as teams from Kingaroy, Wondai, Murgon and Tansey supporting the event.
The Kandanga team of Jack Horne, Mick Roy, Gary Dann and Greg Emery took top honours with five wins 56 ends, followed by the Miles team of Bob Wise, Don Wise, Peter Miskell and Scott Guymer with five wins 51 ends.
Third was the team of Bogga Kath, Tony Smith, Geoff Gees and Gordon Williams with five wins 48 ends.
Fourth with five wins 48 ends was Evan O'Rourke, Alwyn Litzow, Ray Frahm and Peter Ward.
Trevor Turner, Errol Dionysius, Dave Little and Bob Hal finished in fifth with four wins and one draw 44 1/2 ends.
Glen Yeates from the Nanango club said the carnival was down to 14 teams a few years ago and the club has managed to build it back up.
He said the $5000 in prizemoney, with play across two greens, was a drawcard for players.
"We travel to a lot of these places and they come to us and that is how we get the numbers, because if you don't go to them they won't come to you,” Yeates said.
The club thanked event sponsors Nanango Taxi and Limousine Service, Raine and Horne Nanango and the Star Motel.
