GYMNASTICS: Five boys from the Warwick Gymnastic Club will head to the Sleeman Sports Complex at Chandler in Brisbane on Sunday to compete in the Queensland State Championships.
The boys, all level 3, qualified at major competitions throughout the year and cemented their places at the Darling Downs Regional Championships in Toowoomba.
Coach Angela McLaren said the boys had worked hard in the lead-up to the state championships.
"They are excited about representing Warwick,” she said.
"For several of them it is their first time at the state championships so the nerves will be running high, but once they start their routines they tend to settle in very quickly.
"The Sleeman Centre is much bigger than our gym, so it's a bit daunting at first.
"Greg Ryan, our head coach, and I will be out on the competition area with them to ensure they stay calm and focused.”
There are two sessions of level 3. They will be the first to compete and won't know their final placings until later in the afternoon.
The Warwick gymnasts will compete on six apparatuses during the two-hour session - floor, vault, pommel, rings, parallel bars and high bar.
The club is also sending one of its judges to the championships. All the judges are required to stay for both level 3 sessions and on the same apparatus to ensure the judging and scoring is consistent.
A group of girls from the Warwick club will also be competing in Brisbane.

THE building extension at the Warwick Gymnastic Club in Easey St is finished and club president Coby Walker expects it to be in use within the new month.
"The 530 square metre extension will be in use once it is fitted out,” he said.
"We will have mats on the floor and a tumble trampoline this year for training purposes as we don't expect the new competition floor to arrive until around December.
"There are only three manufacturers of competition floors in the world. Ours is from Germany and the same as being used at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.”
