BREAKING: Heavy vehicle crashes outside coal mine

UPDATE 3.45pm: 

A WOMAN driving along the Peak Downs Hwy on her way to work has witnessed the large vehicle that has crashed on the Peak Downs Hwy.

The woman, who works at a coal mine at Strathfield, said it was a small franna crane that crashed just 500m from the South Walker turn off.

She said when she drove past before 2.30pm there were police and fire crews on the scene.

Ambulance officers had already attended the scene and had transported a man in his 20s to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.

EARLIER 3pm:

POLICE are currently on the way to a heavy vehicle crash on the Peak Downs Hwy outside of a coal mine.

A police spokesperson said the call came in about 2.40pm on Friday afternoon with a a very large vehicle on its side with no reports of injuries "at this stage".

The department of main roads has confirmed that there has been a heavy vehicle crash on Peak Downs Highway between Coppabella and Nebo.

The road is partially blocked in an eastbound direction.
