UPDATE 3.15PM: A BUNCH of flowers leans up against a tree outside the home where two young children allegedly witnessed their mother's tragic stabbing death. 

Beyond the flowers and inside the home, forensic investigators can be seen scouring the crime scene for evidence as Rockhampton detectives work to piece together exactly what happened at the property on Tuesday evening. 

It comes as three young children, two girls and one boy, grieve the death of their mother, a 42-year-old The Range woman. 

A man remains in Rockhampton Hospital guarded by police after being arrested in connection with the incident.

UPDATE 9.30am: Rockhampton Acting Inspector Luke Peachey, who has served the Police for 23 years, has described the Scene on Brae St at The Range as "one of the worst scenes we've seen" after a woman, 42, was allegedly stabbed to death in front of children last night.

A man, 45, arrested a short time later is yet to be charged and police are waiting for him to come out of surgery before they can continue questioning.
He is understood to have suffered a non-life threatening, self-inflicted wrist wound. 
Act Inspt Peachey confirmed both persons were known to each other but only one party lived at the South Rockhampton address. 
A crime scene has been declared as investigation continue.
"Hopefully by the end of the day we will have a clearer view,' Act Inspt Peachey said.

He described how traumatic the scene was to all those who witnesses, including the children, neighbours, and first responders.  
"They're very shaken up and I might add, as are the police that attended and the QAS officers," he said.

"The 42-year-old victim, she suffered some horrific wounds."

Act Inspt Peachey did not confirm whether either party were known to police.
Police believe they have found the weapon, a knife, at the crime scene but will continue to investigate.
Act Inspt Peachey said the two children who witnessed the incident are now in the care of their grandfather. 
Police are not ruling out domestic violence as a contributing factor.

UPDATE 7:30am: Queensland Ambulance Services have confirmed in a statement that paramedics were tasked to the scene in home at The Range at 6.38, responding to treat the alleged stabbing. 

"A 42 year old female patient in a critical condition with significant wounds was treated on scene however was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later," a statement read.  

the alleged fatal stabber was taken to hospital in a serious condition with "multiple wounds". 

The man was loaded into the ambulance in police custody after an hour and a half long man hunt through The Range.

UPDATE (Wednesday) 6AM: Police will allege the victim and offender from last night's fatal stabbing in The Range are known to each other.  

Investigations will continue today after staying on scene for the duration of the night. 

The 45-year-old alleged offender sustained what is believed to be self-inflicted wounds to his wrist and was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.

More detail is expected at 9am when police will brief media.  

UPDATE 9.30PM: POLICE will guard a crime scene at Brae Street overnight after a mother was allegedly stabbed to death inside a home. 

Police will also guard a scene at the Botanic Gardens for a number of hours this evening. 

They will also stand guard by a man in Rockhampton Hospital, who was arrested in relation to the incident. 

UPDATE 8.45PM: A CRIME scene has been declared, a mother has tragically lost her life and a man is in custody after a horrific series of events allegedly unfolded in Allenstown this evening. 

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey of Rockhampton Police's Criminal Investigation Branch confirmed the female victim, 42, died at the scene. 

"Circumstances and what occurred here tonight will be under investigation long into the night and I'd say into the upcoming days," Det Snr Sgt Peachey said. 

"We are speaking to a number of witnesses... very tragic events tonight given the actual incident appears to be witnessed by two young children. 

"We will obviously be dealing with those two young children tonight and providing them with the care that they need." 

Det Snr Sgt Peachey said the children were with police. 

"We are making sure that there is some support around them at the moment, obviously they are distraught... they have witnessed their mother tragically become deceased," he said.

Det Snr Sgt Peachey said police would 'throw every resource we have got at this' to bring the investigation to a quick resolution. 

"It is very early in the investigation, this has only occurred just recently so at this stage I can't say who it is," he said. 

"What I can say is we have a number of resources here and we will leave no stone un-turned until we get to the bottom of this investigation. 

"We will wait for our scientific officers and forensic officers to process the scene.Once that's been conducted we will do an investigative search." 

UPDATE 8.34PM: PARAMEDICS have loaded a man arrested over the alleged stabbing death of a woman in Brae Street into an ambulance for transport to hospital. 

Multiple police crews remain on scene at the intersection of Penlington and Ann streets near the Botanic Gardens. 

Police are continuing to search for evidence in the area. It is understood they have found some clothing and more blood trails. 

UPDATE 8.30PM: POLICE have been warned to beware of crocodiles while searching a water hole near the Botanic Gardens for the knife allegedly used to stab a woman to death in Allenstown. 

Police are following blood trails and searching for evidence near the Rockhampton Golf Course after the suspect was arrested nearby. 

 

UPDATE 8.24PM: A Morning Bulletin reporter at the scene of the arrest of a man in Penlington Street has described seeing police with a man arrested on the ground. 

She said at least seven police vehicles were on scene and critical care paramedics had just arrived. 

It is understood the man has deep lacerations. 

UPDATE 8.15PM: POLICE have located and arrested a man wanted for the alleged stabbing death of a woman at a Brae Street home. 

Police have just located the man at the Botanic Gardens on Penlington Street and have him under arrest. 

Paramedics are being called to the scene. 

UPDATE 8.10PM: DETECTIVE Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey has confirmed a woman is dead after being stabbed in front of her two young kids at a Brae Street, Allenstown home. 

Det Snr Sgt Peachey said the woman was 42-years-old. 

Police are still searching for her alleged attacker.

UPDATE 8PM: IT IS understood a woman has died at the scene of a stabbing attack in Allenstown this evening. 

Queensland Ambulance Service has left the scene with no patient, after the woman was stabbed in the neck and abdomen. 

Police are continuing to search for the alleged offender. 

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey is expected to address the media at the scene shortly. 

UPDATE 7.50PM: THE DOG squad is continuing to track a man wanted for the alleged stabbing of a woman at a Brae Street home. 

Police are in the vicinity of the Botanic Gardens, heading through the golf course. 

Multiple crews are on scene searching on foot for the alleged offender. 

UPDATE 7.36PM: A WOMAN stabbed multiple times at a Brae Street home is feared dead. 

A Morning Bulletin reporter at the scene said paramedics had left the home with an empty stretcher. 

She described seeing a lot of blood. 

Police are currently searching for the man who allegedly stabbed the woman in the throat and abdomen. 

They are following a blood trail in the Botanic Gardens area. 

Detectives have arrived at the scene.

UPDATE 7.30PM: A neighbour told The Morning Bulletin two children ran across the road screaming.

They said Dad was stabbing mum and he wouldn't stop. The neighbour went to the house and started CPR until paramedics arrived.

Paramedics are still on scene  treating the woman.

The street is now blocked off.

It is believed she has neck and stomach wounds.

INITIAL: NIGHT had fallen on Brae St in Allenstown when a male reportedly stumbled into a home before stabbing a mother in the throat earlier this evening.

The 45-year-old offender fled the scene leading to a chase with police after allegedly leaving the victim with wounds to the neck and stomach.

Crippled with bleeding wounds himself, the offender (who is wandering Rockhampton's southside) is wearing a short sleeved black shirt, black jeans and a cowboy hat.

Initial reports suggest cordons have been put in place. 

A Morning Bulletin reporter rushed to the scene.

"Two kids ran across the road to the neighbours, one is about six years old … it was their mum," she said.

Police are now searching for a Purple Mazda sedan allegedly registered to the offender and victim.
