Brisbane chief waiting for news on tennis star Marin Cilic

BRISBANE International tournament director Cameron Pearson continues to sweat on news from US Open Champion Marin Cilic following reports the Croatian star is battling injury and may pull out of the tournament starting Sunday.

Croatian website Sport.hrt.hr reported the world No.9, who beat Roger Federer without dropping a set and the then disposed of Kei Nishikori in the final in New York, has been dealing with a shoulder injury over the past five months.

The website quoted him as saying he would try to contest the Australian Open, starting on January 19.

Pearson has contacted Cilic's manager about the reports and told APN Cilic (pictured) was still in the tournament at this stage.

"His manager has assured me I will be the first to know if he withdraws," he said.

"Obviously there is an element of doubt with him but we will have to wait and see what happens in the next few days."
