Broncos visit ignites ideas
RUGBY LEAGUE: Coaches from South Burnett's Beyond the Nest rugby league program were treated to a tour of the Brisbane Broncos' facilities this week.
NRL game development officer Blake Mara was joined by coaches Scott Prendergast and Carl Braithwaite as they experienced a behind-the-scenes look at one of sport's most successful teams.
"We got to see the locker rooms, the gym, the media room, the video room. We even saw new coach Anthony Siebold's office which overlooks the field,” Mara said.
"It's so professional. The whole place just runs like clockwork.”
One of the major lessons from the day was passing on that professionalism to the South Burnett junior players.
"The goal is to develop our coaches and provide an engaging environment for our players to embrace that professionalism,” Mara said.
The Broncos' coaching staff sat with the South Burnett coaches and they were impressed with the program being rolled out for our players.
"We received some great feedback, they could really resonate with what we are already doing,” Mara said.
Having our coaches spend the day with Broncos' staff is just the start of a healthy relationship between the NRL giants and our region's junior league teams.
"Broncos coaching staff will be coming out mid-way through next year to talk to the players and run them through some drills.”
Spending time at Broncos' headquarters showed Mara what was possible in his industry.
"I've got some big dreams and being here just makes you more hungry.”
Mara believes it's important to filter such a professional experience to our junior players.
"That's why we called the program Beyond the Nest, because we want our kids to be thinking about furthering their footy outside the region,” he said.
South Burnett registered players are invited to attend the Beyond the Nest camp on January 18-20.
Beyond the Nest camp is open to registered players aged 12 to 16.
