Bucket-full of zombies invades country town

ZOMBIES, hunters and survivors invaded Nanango's iconic Hannibal's bucket over the weekend.

Part-event organiser Stella Wade said the gory costumes were all for a good cause on Saturday November 24.

"For the first time in history we will have a bucket full of zombies," she said.

More than 40 zombies walked the stretch from Nanango's Lion's Park to Hannibal's bucket in zombie-style.

"We'll saunter, drag our feet, zombify the place, walk and stay in character," she said.

Ms Wade was impressed by the gory make-up and costumes on the day.

"They've really put in a lot of effort and I'm just so pleased they've gone to this much trouble to obviously back this fantastic fundraising cause," she said.

Ms Wade and her co-organiser Tracey Ahlquist organised the event to raise funds for an all inclusive playground to be built at the Butter Factory Park in Nanango.

Mother Cheryl Warner said the zombie walk was raising funds for children like her son Jai.

"We started it and hopefully it can help other kids," she said.

The fundraiser was a collective effort of many community groups getting behind the park.

"They've been amazing, all of the community have been great," she said.

Mrs Warner would often drive to Yarraman, the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich for suitable playgrounds for her son with special needs.

The zombie walk is just one of many fundraising efforts towards building an all-inclusive park closer to home in Nanango.

"We'd go everyday, he just loves the park," she said.

The walking dead dominated the path in the park as they went after those who had chosen to be survivors or zombie hunters, before cornering them at Hannibal's bucket.

The Dead Set Racing Team met the group along the walk at the blood swamp.

"People who want to get spattered with blood can walk off the path and go through the blood swamp and they will be squirted with the water pistols filled with fake blood," Ms Wade said.

The zombies finished their walk by dancing along to Michael Jackson's Thriller, led by the Le Creme Dance Academy.
