Business benefits from Danger Close filming

FILMING has only just begun, but one South Burnett business is already seeing the benefits of the movie Danger Close.

Wooroolin Grand Hotel manager Robyn Logan said the hotel had become a hub for both tourists and crew members for the film about the Vietnam War.

"It's brought a bit to the town, everyone's coming through,” she said.

Actors, cast and film crew members often dropped by the Grand Hotel after filming for a drink or meal, Ms Logan said.

She said they were really friendly, down to earth and were happy to chat and take photos with tourists at the hotel.

"It's been really good, they get in and have a chat with anyone who asks them questions... they're a really good crew,” Ms Logan said.

The Danger Close Facebook page said there were 220 crew, 54 cast and 150 extras, including young Australian Army Afghanistan veterans at the movie set.

There were also five howitzer artillery guns, two Huey UH-1B Choppers, four M113 Armoured Personnel Carriers and one trojan aeroplane in Wooroolin for the filming.

Ms Logan said she heard the helicopter earlier this week when she was at the hotel, and the Wooroolin community was warned about the potential noises from the set in a letter.

"If you hear any noises or gunfire in the area, that's just them doing their shooting,” she said.

Tourists coming through the area were enquiring at the hotel about the film set location, making it an exciting event for the small town.

"I didn't think anyone would make a movie here, but now it's happened,” Ms Logan said.

The filming is good for the whole South Burnett, bringing film enthusiasts and tourists to the area during the filming and beyond, she said.

"People will probably come back, see where it was, where it was made and think about what it was like in the war,” Ms Logan said.

On Anzac Day some of the film crew members and actors attended the Wooroolin Anzac parade and commemorations.

Ms Logan said the gesture meant a lot to the whole town.

"They took the time out to come and mingle with the locals, and give us an inside look at what's going to happen and what the movie was about,” she said.

"It was probably one of the best Anzac Days we've had.”

Film director Kriv Stenders told his Instagram followers, on March 14, the shoot would last for about 41 days.
