Butterworth bowls over Qld to help Tigers snare Shield win

TASMANIA'S Test discard Ben Hilfenhaus and fellow quick Luke Butterworth spoiled any chance Queensland had of salvaging victory on day four of the Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba on Sunday, taking four wickets each.

The Tigers bundled out the hosts for 143, with the Bulls needing 307 to secure an unlikely win.

Every Shield team is now still a chance at making the final, with just five points separating the top-placed Victoria from the last-placed New South Wales.

Tasmania declared at 6-342 in its second innings, meaning Queensland needed to go about its run chase in quick fashion on the final day of play.

But it was the wickets that fell quickly, with the Bulls precariously placed at 4-8, Hilfenhaus (4-33) and Butterworth (4-30) taking two early scalps each.

Luke Pomersbach (61) and Nathan Reardon (46) then fought to produce a 96-run stand, before the Bulls crumbled to lose 6-39.

Meanwhile, Western Australia claimed an astonishing one-wicket win over South Australia at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Ashton Agar and Michael Hogan's shock 68-run partnership for the last wicket got them home.
