Ban the van? Wicked idea, according to some

CALLS for the Sunshine Coast caravan parks to ban camper vans displaying foul language has attracted a groundswell of support.

But not everyone is in favour, with some labelling the move as "pointless" and others claiming the obscenities on the side of some of the vehicles - including the F-word - were not offensive to them.

The call for the ban, which has won the support of mayor Mark Jamieson, came from a Coast man after he spotted one of the infamous Wicked Camper vans with the F-word emblazoned on its side at a council-operated caravan park.

He challenged the council and private Coast operators to take a stand and refuse to accept Wicked Campers which carried foul language.

"Shut the doors on them. Tell them to keep moving because we don't want them here," he wrote to the Daily.

And he has plenty of support.

Social media sites, including the Daily's website, were flooded with support for the call and 53% of respondents to an online poll agreed the paintworks were disgusting and should be banned.

While 15% agreed the Wicked Camper company should be shut down, 18% were not concerned and 12% said the F-word was no longer offensive.

But the vast majority backed a ban, with one reader exclaiming, "this trash should simply not be allowed on the road".

"No wonder we have children with gutter mouths," wrote another.

But there was an alternative point of view.

"Get over it. Last time I checked kids are exposed to way worse online and on TV," another reader said.
