Can’t afford a house? Take this one for free
"WHAT are the conditions?" is the question Steve Challen gets asked every time he answers his phone lately.
Giving away a free house raises a lot of suspicion.
But the house the property developer is looking to give away has five bedrooms, two bathrooms and a spa bath.
"It was a family home for 40 years," he said.
"People around here rode their bikes past it as kids. It's a local identity."
The 86 Andergrove Rd, Mackay, joint was bought by Palmview Homes in 2007 and it wants the house removed to make way for a new development.
"We live in a world where everything is thrown away. This was built at a time when things weren't," Mr Cullen said.
"So we thought we could be like every other developer and smash it up, but why demolish it?"
But of course, there are conditions.
The new owner would have to pay for the houses removal, a job Mr Cullen thought would cost about $55,000.
"We just need the block completely clear. If someone takes it away it will be a win, win for both parties," he said.
"There's been interest.
"There are a lot of guidelines (about shifting houses) not set by us. It will go to the first to satisfy all the requirements."
