IT'S often the simple things that keep children amused for the longest time period.

Think over-sized cardboard boxes, bubble wrap or hula hoops.

So it came as no surprise to Toowoomba mum Joanne Politch that small cards featuring Australian animals were proving a hit with her three children.

The Woolworths promotion offers customers a free pack of four cards with every $20 purchase from the supermarket.

Customers are encouraged to gather the entire collection of 108 cards.

The promotion has been so popular that a "trading day" was set up at The Ridge Shopping Centre last weekend to enable people to trade double ups and fill the gaps in their collection.

"My eldest one was so excited when he got the fresh water yabby (card)," Ms Politch said.

Ms Politch said the cards were an added bonus to her weekly shop.

"We have been getting them for our two older boys who think they are pretty cool," she said.

Yesterday, Woolworths posted on its Facebook account that the albums offered to store the cards had sold out.

The album is, however, online at http://magazines.woolworthsonline.com.au/home.html
