CAROLS: Find out the story behind Away in a Manger

CELEBRATE Christmas this weekend by taking part in a fun and free family event that will give you the chance to raise your voice and sing along to your favourite carols.

Highway Christian Church will share the story behind the popular carol Away in a Manger at its Christmas event on Sunday, December 15.

Pastor Tony Mould said the community was welcome to start their festive fun with the Kingaroy church.

“Come and celebrate Christmas with us,” he said.

“There’s something for all of the family — sing along to all of your favourite carols”

There will also be jumping castles, fairy floss, carnival activities, slushies, popcorn and a barbecue dinner on offer from 5pm.

The activities outside will be run by the church’s youth group teenagers and volunteers.

They are some of the 50 volunteers, from teenagers to retirees, who will be helping onstage and offstage to make the special Christmas event happen.

“Have something to eat, let the kids have some fun and then head inside for the Away in a Manger production,” Pastor Mould said.

“It’s a musical drama production with traditional carols and modern Christmas songs.”

The audience will meet some Christmas characters like Mary, Joseph and the Wise Men and they might even meet Highway’s favourite shepherd.

“We want people to walk away feeling that they can be part of the Christmas story,” Pastor Mould said.

The Highway Christmas event Away in a Manger will be held from 5pm on Sunday at the church on the corner of the D’Aguilar Highway and Edenvale North Rd, Kingaroy.
