CHARGES LAID: Farmer threatened with knife before car theft

TWO South Burnett teenagers have been charged after a 61-year-old Murgon man was allegedly held at knifepoint and had his car stolen on Monday morning.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a 15-year-old Murgon boy had been charged with one count each of stealing, stealing a vehicle, obstruct police, driving unlicensed and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 14-year-old Cherbourg boy has also been charged with stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in relation to the incident.

According to police, a group of boys approached the farmer on Monday and asked for a cigarette.

He said "no", but a short time later the group came back.

One of the boys allegedly got into the driver's seat of his Hyundai SUV, and another into the passenger seat.

When the man approached his vehicle, the boy in the passenger seat produced a knife and they drove off.

The car was found early on Tuesday morning on the corner of Broadway and Jerome streets, Cherbourg.

Murgon Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Brett Sander said it was "frightening" a weapon had been produced during the incident on Coronation Dr.

"We were hoping that weapons would never be brought out, but it looks like the criminals are going to do it themselves," Mr Sander said.

However, he could take comfort in the dedication of the police in their duty to protect the community.

Mr Sander said he was in contact with police up to three times a week with matters such as reported break-ins that he heard about from the community.

"Be really vigilant, and if you see a suspicious person, let the police know and ask for other neighbours to help keep watch," he said.
