A MAN who raped a 10-year-old girl and groped her and her 12-year-old sister will be out of jail after 18 months.
In Toowoomba District Court last month the 65-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the children, was found guilty of rape and indecent treatment of a minor.
He was sentenced in Brisbane on Thursday.
The court heard the offending occurred across a single day when the man and his wife were caring for the two girls for their parents.
On the day the 10-year-old girl stayed home sick from school with the man. He attacked her - touching her genitals with his hands. He then made her shower and cleaned her.
That night the man was sitting in the back seat of the car with the two girls while his wife drove.
As they drove he began touching them inappropriately.
The older girl continually told him to stop and that she didn't like what he was doing.
The girls stayed the night and when they returned to their home the next day the older girl told their mother who reported it to the police.
At trial the man's defence team alleged the girls were making up the claims and their mother had "schooled" them on what to say.
The court on Thursday heard the man had expressed little remorse for his offences.
The man was sentenced to three years jail, to be suspended after he has served 18 months behind bars.
