Ipswich goes gaga for Obama at G20

OBAMARAMA. That is what Ipswich and the nation has celebrated from the moment US President Barack Obama touched down at Amberley on Saturday morning - right up until he flew out of the G20 Leaders' Summit last night.

It even started before that, when a motorcade went down the Cunningham Hwy Thursday afternoon with the presidential limousine, The Beast.

The President was still in Asia at the time, but there were two of the limousines in the convoy - the one Mr Obama travels in and one decoy.

Cr Paul Tully captured a video of the drive-by on the Ipswich Motorway and had it on his Facebook page within minutes, with stunning results.

"The video I took on the motorway had 151,000 hits around the world," Cr Tully said.

"The entourage of 27 vehicles came through about 5.50pm and I had it up before 6 o'clock. People were interested in the spendour of all the vehicles.

"I can remember when (former US President) Lyndon Johnson came here in 1966 when he went up Queen St in a limousine in the early evening."

Mr Obama took a helicopter from Amberley to his base in Brisbane on Saturday morning.

Lailey Hunt made a post on Facebook about that too.

"Hi Mr President. Thanks for waking the kids in your noisy choppers. LOL," she posted.

Kev Cumming summed up how many felt with this post: "Great day for Ipswich residents with the President of the United States landing at Amberley."
