8400 jobs up for grabs as part of Bunnings $810m expansion

TOOWOOMBA is part of an $810 million investment Bunnings will make in Queensland over the next five years.

The hardware giant has opened a new distribution centre in Brisbane to service 20 new hardware superstores to be opened across the state.

That includes the new Toowoomba warehouse, to be built at the site of the former Toowoomba foundry on Ruthven St.

Bunnings today indicated the new Toowoomba warehouse could be opened within five years.

The company's Queensland-wide expansion will create more than 2500 permanent jobs and 5900 jobs during construction.

"Investment in a new, state of the art distribution centre at Lytton, in the Port of Brisbane, provides us with the scale to support our next stage of growth in Queensland and will help us to improve distribution efficiency so we can keep offering our customers more and more value", Bunnings chief operating officer Peter Davis said.

The network expansion plans include the following new trading locations:

  • four warehouse stores currently under construction at Manly West, West Ipswich, Burleigh Heads and Gympie
  • seven warehouse stores to commence construction in the coming months at Brendale, Bundamba, Keperra, Mackay South, Mackay North, Maroochydore, Bundaberg
  • nine sites secured at Cairns, Coolum, Gatton, Hervey Bay, Lawnton, Newstead, Springfield Central, Toowoomba and Virginia
