Clancy earmarked as a favourite for world championships
KINGAROY'S Taliqua Clancy heads into the beach volleyball world championships this week in Germany as a favourite for the title alongside team mate Mariafe Artacho del Solar.
The duo have cemented themselves as favourites now ranked at number two in the world in the lead-up to the championships on the back of dominant wins so far this year.
The Australians proved they are in top form scoring victory at the FIVB four star world tour event in Poland.
Clancy and Artacho del Solar defeated the United States in the final recovering to win the first set 22-20 and the second set 21-17.
Artacho del Solar told Volleyball Australia the comeback in the first set was the result of great team work.
"The set is not over until the last whistle. We stuck together, we kept fighting every point, and we kept hustling," she said.
"It was really good team work and really good patience from us and we just trusted the process."
This was the teams fifth gold medal on the world stage ahead of the world championships in Hamburg from 28 June to 7 July.
Clancy said victory at the world tour event was perfect preparation ahead of the world championships.
"We are going to the World Championships with the same mentality; point by point, game by game," she told Volleyball Australia.
"I am so excited to go back to Hamburg. It is such a great event and it would be amazing to be in the same position we are today."
This is on the back of brining home gold from the Asian Beach Volleyball titles in China with a win over the home team 2-0 in the final.
