Cloke black and white hot in ‘Pies win

AFTER notable footy personalities slid their way into a pool of ice water, Collingwood power forward Travis Cloke made a sizeable splash of his own against Melbourne at the MCG.

As part of Neale Daniher's campaign to raise awareness of motor neurone disease, which he is suffering from, the likes of Sam Newman, Garry Lyon and Dermott Brereton took their turns to freeze before the annual Queen's Birthday clash.

Cloke though was the one to break the ice out on the field, slotting the first goal of the match before ending up with seven as the Magpies registered a 17.8 (110) to 13.7 (85) victory over the Demons.

Often maligned for his wayward kicking - he went into the match having slotted 19.15 this season - Cloke booted a career-best seven straight majors to win the first ever Neale Daniher Trophy as best-on-ground.

Cloke (pictured) kicked four goals in the first term as the Magpies took a five-goal lead into the first change.

Daniher would have been proud of the side he coached for 11 seasons, however, after Melbourne stormed back in the second term, with six successive goals to at one stage snatch the lead.

Collingwood eventually steadied before having a little too much class in the second half for the brave Demons.

Adam Oxley was also superb for the Magpies, sweeping up across half-back to finish with a career-high 34 possessions.

Bernie Vince was Melbourne's best, gathering 34 touches and kicking two goals, while skipper Nathan Jones (34 disposals) also battled hard in the midfield.
