Close call after friend's car crashes into living room

A LAZY Sunday afternoon watching television turned into a dangerous near-miss for Yeppoon's Tony Mead when a car crashed into his living room.

The man spoke to The Morning Bulletin yesterday from his damaged home, which he was renting from his son.

Tony said the incident happened about 2.30pm when his neighbour and friend, who lives higher up in the street, had his car parked in the driveway with a flat battery.

"It's rolled down the hill and hit the palm tree which is when I heard a loud bang," he said.

"But before I could even get up off the recliner, the car had smashed through the front of the house and into the living room."

Tony said he was very lucky he avoided any major injuries, which could have been a different story if he was sitting only a few metres on the other side of the room.

"The glass door protected me from the debris flying through from hitting me, because some of it went all the way to the back door," he said.

Tony said he would spend Christmas at his son's home while the repair work was being done.
