Clumsy thief leaves Cinderella clue as door catches him

A DARING thief who broke into a small Sunshine Coast cafe and stole cash didn't quite get the quick getaway he had planned.

CCTV footage showed the offender getting stuck under a large garage door, leaving behind a silver slipper in the form of a head lamp, as he tried to make his escape.

Owner of Kawana Way Coffee and Takeaway, Mandy Moncrieff, said while the theft was devastating for the small business, she couldn't help but laugh at the thief's getaway attempt.

"It was a mission. I'll give him that much," she said.

The Warana industrial estate takeaway was broken into in the early hours of Monday morning. Ms Moncrieff said the thief stole about $800 in cash from two separate tills.

"He did appear to know where it (the till) was," she said.

"Where the second drawer was... I wouldn't think would be public knowledge."

Ms Moncrieff said the cafe had never had an issue in the five years it had been open, and was rocked by the theft.

"It's just hard. Small businesses, everyone's doing it a bit hard. And he's just gone and done this," she said.

"If someone wants money, come and ask people for jobs."

She said the cafe's loyal customer base was shocked someone would target the business.

"Our customers are awesome," she said. "Had the guy stolen the chicken salt, there would have been a bit of uproar over here."

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said no one had been charged over the theft and investigations were continuing.
