Loss to USA forces Australia to focus on Olympic Sevens comp

AUSTRALIA'S focus will switch to November's qualifying tournament for the 2016 Rio Olympics after falling to the USA in the final of the London round of the sevens rugby world series.

After an impressive 33-7 win over Fiji in the semi-finals, Australia's coach, Geraint John (pictured), said he was disappointed the team was unable to back that up against the USA which took out its first world series final.

"The cup final was really disappointing," John said.

"God knows how many tackles we missed in that game, but you have to give credit to the USA.

"We have a lot of hard work to do and we'll do that in the pre-season in the lead up to the Olympic qualifying event in November."

Despite losing the semi-final, Fiji's 19-7 victory over South Africa in the quarter-finals gave the Pacific Islanders their first series triumph since 2006.
