Commendation for graduates

INDIGENOUS high school graduates from across the South Burnett region will be commended at the annual Indigenous Elders Acknowledgement Night in Murgon tomorrow night

The night celebrates the hard work put in by indigenous students who completed Year 12 this year at the four South Burnett high schools.

Community education counsellor at Murgon High School Sharon Beggs said the night was a good encouragement for indigenous students to finish school.

"It's breaking down the stigma in Aboriginal communities and acknowledging the obstacles in their way," she said.

The celebration evening will kick off at 6.30pm at the Murgon Town Hall and will feature a performance by the Wakka Wakka Dancers from Cherbourg.
