Community service for cannabis grower

A 21-year-old Wondai man pleaded guilty to eight drug charges after police found cannabis plants in a chest of drawers at his Pring St home and inside a car.

Police raided Nicholas John Johannessen's house on July 30 and found 11 cannabis seedlings growing in a pot in a chest of drawers that was fitted with a false front.

More plants were found in the engine bay of a car parked behind the house.

Johannessen said he grew the drugs to feed his addiction after losing his job as an apprentice mechanic.

He was ordered to serve to 80 hours community service.
