Competition fires up before junior finals
RUGBY LEAGUE: The under-12 Nanango Stags just managed to scrape through to the finals after they took out a big 38-4 win over the Wondai Wolves last Saturday.
This win rewarded the Stags the necessary two points to scrape it into the top four of the competition.
The U12 Cherbourg Hornets held onto the top of the table despite a tough challenge from the Kingaroy Red Ants at the weekend.
The Hornets were held to a 16-all draw which helped them rise above the Red Ants by a single point on the ladder.
In the final U12 fixture round the Murgon Mustangs overcame the Central Burnett Brumbies 18-12.
Despite the Mustangs' win they were unable to finish in a finals position after they landed in fifth spot on the ladder.
The Brumbies managed to claim third spot.
The Wolves' U14 squad maintained the throne in their age group after they thumped the Chinchilla White 64-10.
Second placed Cherbourg scalped a 50-10 win over Kingaroy.
Murgon forfeited to Nanango which cost Murgon a 20-0 loss. But second last on the table it did little to their finals hopes. Nanango finished third on the U14 ladder.
The Central Burnett Brumbies also forfeited to Chinchilla Green. The U14 Chinchilla Green finished fourth on the ladder.
In the U16 competition, the Central Burnett Brumbies topped the ladder with 24 points after an 18-16 win over Nanango/Wondai. Nanango/Wondai finished at the bottom of the table with 16 points.
Cherbourg clinched a tight 32-28 win over Kingaroy to lock in a second place finish. Both Cherbourg and Kingaroy finished on 18 points.
Nanango will host the semi-finals which will start with Central Burnett U12 v Nanango U12 at 9am.
Cherbourg U12 v Kingaroy U12 will start at 10am.
Chinchilla Green U14 v Central Burnett U14 will play at 11am.
Wondai U14 v Cherbourg U14 kick-off at 12pm.
Kingaroy U16 will play Nanango U16 at 1pm.
Central Burnett U16 take on Cherbourg U16 at 2.30pm.
